Parent Involvement

Parent involvement and participation is warmly invited and actively encouraged. You can participate in a variety of ways including those listed below. Being at the school helping out is a great way to stay up to date with school news and happenings. Children whose parents are actively involved in the school generally do better at school as they have an increased sense of belonging at the school.

If you would like to become involved please speak to your classroom teacher – or our Principal to find out more.

Classroom Helpers

Parents are encouraged to help out in the classrooms in a range of ways. This might include listening to children read and helping them change daily home readers, attending class excursions and helping to supervise a group of children, assist at school sports and coaching sports teams.

School Council

All government schools in Victoria have a school council. They are legally constituted bodies that are given powers to set the broad directions of a school in accordance with their constituting Order and the Education and Training Reform Act 2006. In doing this, a school council is able to directly influence the quality of education that the school provides for its students.
Parents on school councils provide important viewpoints and have valuable skills that can help inform and shape the direction of the school. Those parents who become active on a school council find their involvement satisfying and may also find that their children feel a greater sense of belonging. Nominations for School Council are called for in February each year and this is a great way to become involved.

Working Bee's

Our Buildings and Grounds committee organise working bees each term to give families the chance to get involved in a practical, yet enjoyable way at Bimbadeen. Working bees help to maintain and improve the gardens and school facilities as well as meet other families to build our sense of community. A BBQ and drinks are provided at the end of the working bee.

Canteen

An external provider currently runs our canteen.  We offer lunch orders in this way to keep the costs down and make it affordable for families. Canteen is run on Tuesday and Friday and orders can be made through ‘Flexischools’. While we no longer require parent help for our canteen, we do appreciate the support given by our parents to be able to continue this service for our students
